You can save a Pinterest video with the Save button (bookmarks only), the app’s own options (only on some pins), screen recording (lower quality), browser developer tools (technical) or a web downloader (the actual file, fastest). A web downloader gives the best mix of quality and ease.

There is more than one way to keep a Pinterest video. Each has trade-offs in quality, effort and what you end up with. Here is a fair comparison, including where a web downloader is not the best choice.
1. Pinterest's Save button
Saving a pin to a board keeps a reference inside Pinterest. It is the right choice if you only want to find it again in the app. It is not a file: if the creator deletes the pin, it disappears, and it does not work offline.
2. The app's own download option
For some pins, the Pinterest app offers a download option in the share or more menu. When it is available it is the most direct route. It is not offered on every pin, and creators can affect whether it appears.
3. Screen recording
Every modern phone can record its screen. It works on anything you can watch, but the result includes interface elements, is limited to your screen resolution, may capture notifications and is re-compressed, which lowers quality.
4. Browser developer tools
Technically minded users can inspect network requests to find the video file. It works on desktop, but it is slow, fiddly and often yields an HLS stream rather than a single file.
5. A web downloader such as PinSaveHD
A downloader reads the public pin and lists the files Pinterest provides. You get the original file at its real resolution, without interface overlays, on any device. It only works for public pins, and it depends on Pinterest's page structure, which can change.
Side by side
| Method | Real file | Original quality | Works offline | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Save to board | No | — | No | Lowest |
| App download option | Yes | Usually | Yes | Low (when offered) |
| Screen recording | Yes | No | Yes | Medium |
| Developer tools | Sometimes | Yes | Yes | High |
| Web downloader | Yes | Yes | Yes | Low |
Which should you use?
If the app's own download option is there, it is perfectly good. For everything else that is public, a downloader gives the cleanest file with the least effort. Whatever method you choose, the same rule applies: use content you have the right to use.
A note on quality
Screen recording often looks fine on the phone that recorded it but shows its weakness on a larger screen: softer detail, compression blocks in dark areas and the wrong aspect ratio if the interface was visible. If you plan to edit or display the clip anywhere bigger than a phone, use a method that gives you the original file.
A note on safety
Whichever tool you choose, avoid anything that wants your Pinterest password, requires installing an unknown app to save a single file, or delivers an executable instead of a video. A downloader should hand you an MP4 or an image and nothing else.
