If a Pinterest download fails, first check the link contains /pin/ or pin.it, then confirm the pin is public by opening it logged out. Wait a minute if you hit a rate limit, disable aggressive blockers for the page, and on iPhone use Save to Files when Safari plays the video.

When a download fails, the cause is almost always one of a small number of things. Work down this list and you will usually find it within a minute.
1. The pin is private, secret or deleted
Only public pins can be read without a login. If the pin opens for you but not in a private browser window, it is not public, and no honest downloader can fetch it.
2. You copied a page, not a pin
Search pages, the home feed and “More ideas” lists are not single pins. Open the pin itself and copy again — see how to copy a pin link.
3. The link is incomplete
Chat apps sometimes cut long URLs. Check that the pin number is the full 15–19 digits.
4. It is an image pin, not a video
Some pins look animated because of a GIF or carousel. Try the image downloader or carousel downloader.
5. The video is an external embed
Pins that link to YouTube or another site do not contain a Pinterest-hosted video file, so there is nothing to download from Pinterest itself.
6. A content blocker interferes
Aggressive blockers can stop the download link from opening. Allow the site or try another browser.
7. iPhone saves to Files, not Photos
Safari puts downloads into Files › Downloads. Open the file and use Share › Save Video. Our iPhone guide walks through it.
8. Temporary rate limiting
If many requests come from one network, Pinterest may slow responses. Wait a minute and try again.
9. MP3 or GIF conversion fails
MP3 and GIF conversion run in your browser. Videos over 150 MB are refused, and a video with no sound has no audio to extract. Use a current browser, close other tabs on low-memory phones, or download the original MP4.
