TL;DR

Shared Pinterest links often carry extra parameters after a question mark. Removing them leaves a short pinterest.com/pin/ID/ link that still opens the same pin. Clean links look better, are easier to check and share less tracking data with the sites you post them on.

Copy a pin link and you may get more than you expected: ?invite_code=…, &sender=…, utm_source and other parameters. They help with analytics and invitations, but they make links long and can reveal who shared them.

What the parameters do

  • utm_* — campaign tracking for analytics.
  • invite_code / sender — ties the link to your account’s share.
  • mt / rs — internal referrer hints.

Is it safe to remove them?

Yes. The pin is identified by its number in the path, /pin/123…/. Everything after the question mark is optional for public pins.

Paste it into the Pinterest link cleaner; it expands pin.it short links if needed, removes tracking parameters and gives you the canonical address. Everything except the short-link lookup happens in your browser.

Clean links are also better for QR codes: shorter URLs make simpler, easier-to-scan codes in the QR maker.
