Idea Pins — formerly Story Pins — are Pinterest's multi-page format. A single pin can hold up to 20 pages of video clips, photos, text, stickers and music. They're great for recipes and tutorials, but saving one is less obvious than saving a regular pin.

How Idea Pins are built

Each page is stored as its own block: either a video (with its own set of MP4/HLS renditions) or an image. Text overlays, stickers, the ingredient list and the music you hear are separate layers that the Pinterest app draws on top during playback. That matters: downloading gives you the media of each page, not a flattened screen recording.

Step by step

1. Open the Idea Pin and tap Share → Copy link.
2. Paste it into the Idea Pin downloader.
3. You'll see a numbered list of pages — each with a video or image button and its real resolution.
4. Download the pages you want. Filenames include the page number so they stay in order.

Getting the text and ingredient lists

Because text overlays aren't part of the files, use the caption copier to grab the pin's title, description and hashtags. For recipe Idea Pins, the details often live on the creator's linked website, which is also the best place to support them.

About music

Music chosen from Pinterest's licensed library is mixed in by the app and frequently isn't present in the public files. Original audio recorded with each clip normally is. If you need a soundtrack, use royalty-free music in your own edit.

Making one continuous video

Drop the downloaded pages into an editor — CapCut, iMovie, Clipchamp, DaVinci Resolve or the free Shotcut — in order, add transitions and re-add any text you need. If an editor refuses HEVC pages, re-download the H.264 versions.

When only one page appears

Pinterest sometimes serves just the first page to logged-out visitors, particularly for very new pins. We show exactly what Pinterest returned rather than guessing. Waiting a few hours and trying again often reveals the full set.

Be a good guest

Idea Pins are original creator content by design — Pinterest doesn't allow outbound links on many of them, so saves and follows are how creators get credit. Download for personal use, and follow the creator if you enjoy their work.
